Recreational Water Safety
With many citizens enjoying the waterways within the Municipality, including the Schuylkill River, the Stoney Creek along with private pools, it is important to practice water safety. Below are some water safety tips:
- Wearing a Life Jacket Can Save Your Life
- Alcohol and Water are a Deadly Combination
- Many drowning victims are within 10 feet of safety, having unintentionally entered the water. You should never go near anybody struggling to stay afloat because you could drown too! To help rescue someone extend a pole, stick, line, or clothing to reach them or throw something floatable to them.
- Take a Boating Course
- Learn to Swim Well and Practice Floating
- Watch Your Children
- Don't Depend on Floating or Air-filled Toys. There is no substitute for a life jacket!
- Prepare for Sudden Weather Changes - Always check the weather conditions and file a float plan with a responsible person before you go boating.
- Obey All Signs and Buoys
- Don’t Rock Your Boat
